Vocational Education and Training

The scope of the study program is 120 credits/3 years. After the vocational qualification, students can continue their studies at a university of applied sciences (polytechnic) or university.

Vocational Studies

90 credits

Basic studies consisting of 20-40 credits.


Specialized studies consisting of 20-60 credits, which includes on-the-job training/work placement of at least 20 credits/half a year (in Finland or abroad).


Final Project

Core Subjects - Common to All Qualifications


20 credits

Language studies; mathematics; physics and chemistry; social, business and labour market subjects; health and physical education; arts and culture; environment studies; ICT, ethics and other cultures; psychology and entrepreneurship.


20 credits of which 16 are compulsory and 4 are optional.

Free-Choice Studies

10 credits

Can include general, vocational upper secondary and core subjects.

Total

120 credits

One credit is equivalent to a student’s average study effort of 40 hours.

 

It is also possible to combine theoretical (matriculation examination) and vocational upper secondary studies and get two certificates at the same time. This option would take 3 - 4 years to complete.

 

Career orientation and training is offered to young people, who do not know where and what they wish to study.
